it was posted by more than one person that BMW had started using OEM sealed batteries. I have no idea if this is true or not, but my recollection was that there WERE postings from folks who had just taken delivery of new cars that the batteries in their cars WERE sealed version.

In the thread about the incompatibility, it was explained, if I remember right, that there are sealed batteries that DO work properly with Z3 electrical system; obviously if BMW IS using sealed units (if true) they must be the correct type.

The bigger question raised back then was WHY BMW would continue to use old fashioned battery technology when newer, maintanence-free units are available.
