Don't get a VOX (Voice Operated Switch).

When the top is down, the noise will open the switch all the time, you will be stuck in transmit and kill the communication for everyone.

You need to hold the radio 2 inches from your mouth, push the talk button and THEN, after a 1/2 second pause, begin talking. Most people press the talk button at the same time they begin speaking so "Don't turn left!" becomes "Turn left!".

Have you considered getting one with earphones? There are units with integrated earphone micrphones, but I can't help with who makes or selld them.

Than

I have a hearing problem and want to purchase the 2-way radio that provides the best audio and is compatible with radios used by other Z3 drivers.

I am open to suggestions but am currently considering:

Radio Shack 40-channel Sports CB walkie-talkie reg $100 now $60
Radio Shack FRS 14 channels, 38 quiet codes Reg $100 now $70
Radio Shack FRS 14 Channels, 19 quiet codes Reg $60 now $ 50

The CB looks to be the best but I am concerned about possible incompatibility with others.

Thanks in advance - TomC

Yes I am going on the Texas Hill Country Curvy Line Drive Mach 31-April1
