Read your letter with interest.
Would characterise your assessment of Zeemax International as pretty much on the mark.
Having had business dealings here in the UK with Zeemax International, I'm able to shed some light on to how this company conducts its business.
After losing a lawsuit here in the UK, Zeemax International liquidated the company, and re-opened as Zeemax International Design Ltd.
Why do this?
Quite simple really.
Zeemax Internationally basically closed the company, (listed as having virtually no assets /property) which in turn meant that all the people owed money by Zeemax were unable to collect.
Under English Law they were able to slightly change the name, re-opening as Zeemax International Design Ltd, leaving behind a whole bunch of people who were all owed money as well as the money owed from the law suit which they lost.
If you look around the UK you will find that they have very little in the way of a dealer network. This is largely due to the manner in which they conduct their business.
A lawsuit against this company is pretty much useless as they will simply fold the company and move on.

Click on 'company information',
'Company details' and search for Zeemax International Ltd.
Case no 02882299 shows that the company liquidated on 06-09-2000 as indicated by the 'L' beside their name.

We are currently pursuing legal action against Zeemax International Design LTD, hereafter referred to as ZIDL, for defamation, libel and fraud, therefore we have been reluctant to respond publicly to their ridiculous allegations. However we are able to divulge certain indisputable facts which we are able to substantiate.

Originally we purchased approximately $50- $60,000. of supposedly Kevlar re-inforced product from ZIDL. You can imagine our surprise when we received a call from a composite expert who informed us that all the kits we had received, had not a single trace of Kevlar in them. Of course we immediately contacted ZILD, their response when confronted with the information “Everybody advertises their parts with Kevlar.”
In other words they lied to us and to their customers worldwide, The same customers they profess to be so concerned about. Shortly after this confrontation they removed the word Kevlar from their advertising literature.

As early as 1999 we informed ZIDL of fitting problems with certain kits, they showed no interest in correcting any of the problems and of course they were not interested in reimbursing us or any customer for bad parts.
We even encouraged several of our customers to call ZIDL directly, hoping this would encourage some action, as usual nothing happened.
Unfortunately anytime a problem arose ZIDL chose to ignore the situation and as usual left us to sort it out. We have given refunds, even when not required, fixed parts at our own expense, and sent out replacement parts, for which we have never been reimbursed

Overcharging –
Another ridiculous allegation.
Please compare our prices to other imported products sold in the US from tuners like HAMANN and AC Shnitzer and you will see that our actual selling prices are well below the norm.
Customers who have bought product from us in the past can and will verify this.

Wheels –
Type-I & Type-II. These wheels were branded Zeemax Wheels with the full knowledge of the company. I personally had discussions with the owner of ZILD regarding using these wheels on the cars, in fact at ZILD request we faxed them an estimate for a set shipped to England as they were considering using them.
Again we can prove this, as our wheel tech has the estimate on file along with the date, and destination address.
I have the Type-1 wheel on my own personal car and have many satisfied customers using the wheel, in fact the only problem has been keeping up with the demand for it.
We continue to and are proud to offer both our Type-I/Type-II wheels as SMS MOTORSPORT wheels.

Regarding Bodyshops and fiberglass parts –
The majority of fiberglass parts require prepping, trimming, filling, sanding as they are never perfectly straight or smooth.
How bodyshops handle and charge for installing kits varies greatly.
I have often had cases where someone will pay approximately $1200-$1500 for a kit installed while another customer may pay $2000-3000 to have the same kit installed at a different bodyshop. We recommend customers use a shop that regularly installs bodykits, this way you can get a realistic estimate for the job. Choosing a shop that does mostly insurance work or high rate collision work is one way to ensure that you are going to end up with an extremely costly job. Theses shops are often not willing to spend time fitting kits, and if they do, they will generally complain about every modification they have to make, while simultaneously increasing your estimate.
If a shop has your car for an excessively long period, it is not because they are spending time fitting your kit , it is simply because they are not working on your car.

The future
All 0f our products /Wheels are now sold as SMS MOTORSPORT parts.
We are currently in the process of Tooling up for our own product line along with improving our current products, this way we will be able to ensure that the product
Quality we desire is met, instead of relying on outside parties with questionable business ethics and non existent quality control. Many customers/callers have expressed a great deal of interest in our upcoming new product line which will include widebody kits and new 8 series styling. Over the next weeks and months more information and pictures will be available. To our existing customers who have expressed interest in upgrading their ZIDL parts to those of our new SMS MOTORSPORT line, we will be offering heavily discounted prices.

In conclusion
We received calls from several former ZIDL dealers in other countries, All of whom had similar bad faith dealings with this company, and were able to provide me with information that had I known earlier, would have resulted in an immediate termination of our Business relationship.

Consider this – when we took over the product line ZIDL made the same allegations against KORMAN AUTOWORKS that they are now making against us.
We consider ourselves in good company as KORMAN AUTOWORKS has a Worldwide reputation as a quality company, with Ray Korman playing a major role in racing and popularizing the BMW brand In the U.S. way back before most of us even new what a BMW was.

The message boards are at their best when reserved for chat between car enthusiasts.
It’s a shame that we have been forced to enter into a public debate with the amateurs
At ZIDL, but then again nothing this company does surprises us anymore.
