I test drove a 98 M last summer, and when I came around a corner at slow speed, hammered the throttle and almost lost it into the curb. The tires were spinning as if the road has ice on it. I came to stop in the middle of the road a short while later. It seems to me that the tires were at fault. From what I read, the Dunlop Sport 8080E are terrible tires. In addition there was hardly any tread on them.
On my '00 M I leave my traction control on vitually all the time and with the Michelin Pilot Sport tires, the car handles predictably. I can pull the same stunt with it and do not lose control. No suspesion modification have been done. I run 32psi front and back. The car has very slight oversteer.
