As a daily driver, there are some things which aren't a blast:

  • rainwater gets on your legs when you get into the car due to lack of gutters. This is common with ragtops.
  • The stereo sucks, top up or down, rain or shine.
  • Storage space can be a problem, but it was designed by someone who drinks wine -- a case of wine fits perfectly in the trunk. This will be handy this summer in Napa. There is enough storage space for a 10-day cross-country trip for two people, including camera equipment.
  • You always park it far away from other cars. But I do that with my 1994 Honda, too.
  • You need to wash it to keep it looking nice. But that's necessary with anything except a Honda, too.
  • Little things are annoying: no variable-speed intermittent wipers, doors don't have lights (to avoid stepping in oil or water puddle), no foot-well lighting, no cruise-control-engaged light, and other annoyances like that are mostly brushed away as "it's a roadster!" by owners.

Road noise isn't a problem with the top up in newer models (which have a liner). It seems only a bit louder than a non-German hard top sporty car like a Mustang or Camero.

    I own a 2001 3.0i.
