I asked my BMW service rep about aftermarket exhaust and he said it really would never lead to BMW saying it contributed to a failure. They just dont hurt anything.
I got the impression that aftermarket exhausts really arnt going to cause a problem BUT if installed incorrectly and caused some sort of problem ie. melting or exhaust leak, then youd be liable for the $$ to fix any stock components damaged as well as having to pay for repairing your aftermarket exhaust. Bottom line, anything you throw on your car other tht BMW or Dinan, will be excluded on your warrenty. I wouldnt worry about an aftermarket exhaust. An aftermarket air intake on the other hand could pose the threat of sucking up water and locking up your engine. Id hate to pay $$$$$ for a $175 bolt on. BTW, Im probably the most cautious person when it comes to aftermarket parts, if theres too much of a chance of some part's installation causing me problems or $$ then I wont go for it. This phylosophy paid off in the past and Im sure it will with my Z3.
Try HMS, I got a supersprint cat-back delivered for a total of $467.
