I don't work for SAP America, but I have been working with SAP ERP Software for 5 years now. It is very interesting and similiar to the great cars we drive. It's that German engineering :)

I know that this how most Large Corporates want to feed us (Banks) Payment information, and that each one of them has different information in each of the "standard" fields.

What do you want to know about IDOCs? They are Intermediate Documents with a specific structure (data layout) defined by SAP. They are used both for outbound and inbound data. SAP does not allow you to update their table directly. You have to use one of their methods, of which, IDOCs is one of them. Do you know this already?
