the magic of the M Roadster is the fact that you can power oversteer anywhere. Unfortunately that is a double edged sword. On the Autocross course that quick turn-in (when balanced properly) does not have to be understeer, and the throttle in a turn can help you turn in faster.
As lester pointed out, that is why God created Autocrosses. Go to them with your local BMW CCA club. They are cheap and you can learn how to make all of those quick scary things into your friend. After driving an M Roadster, most things seem kind of lame to drive. I just got a chance to spend a weekend with a Ferrari F355 and it is great, but I still love my M Roadster.
About the tires, we took the same car at Willow Springs Raceway, swapped the tires between the Michilins and the Dunlops and found a 7-10 second time difference per lap. The Golden Gate Chapter had some people do the same with 3 Different M5's and found the same issue. The Dunolps are sad. BMW has had lower benchmark results in every magazine that has run the Dunlops recently vs. the first time they tested the car 2 years ago with Michilins. I personally would buy the BFG Gforce tires, they will help you with your handling and spinning issues, they are that much better. I have run the following tires on my Z3 2.8(Sold), M Roadster and E36 328is the following tires, Michilin Pilots, Potenza S-02's, Dunlops 8080's, Continental Sport Contacts, Sumotomo HTRZ II, Bridgestone RE71, and have been on the Yoko's and the BFG G force has no substitute. Also the Kumho Victor Racer (R Compound not fair)
You will remember your time with your little sports car, do not let the details take away from the magic.
What part of the world are you in?
