Every Z3 manual in print through '99 models as well as all the bulb web sites lists the fog as an H1. But I was convinced not too long ago that it's an H7. I don't know if this was fixed in the '00 and '01 manuals.

On the front of each headlight clear lens, the international headlight bulb designation is moulded into the plastic. At the high bean position, it's HB3; for low bean, it's HB4. In the USA, headlight bulbs have an SAE (or DOT) 4-digit bulb number on them and most also have this international designation, too. The high bean bulb is a 6005.
