The Z3 is one of the easiest cars to do an oil change. The drain plug is on the right side of the engine block. It takes a 17 mm socket. With a long extension, you can reach it without getting under the car. The oil shoots out so have a container far enough away from the hole to catch the oil, and remember, it holds 7 quarts. When you replace the plug, replace the copper washer that comes with the filter kit. Torque to only 18.3 ft lbs.(or you might break off the hollow plug.

The filter is removed from inside the engine compartment. You can acutually remove it without draining the oil. Get a 45 mm socket from Sears(1/2 in drive) and a 3/8-1/2 in adapter to remove the cover. Replace the gasket in the cover(comes with kit) and torque to 18.3 ft.lbs. Add 7 qts of trisynthetic oil. The BMW oil, now Castrol 5W30 is probably the cheapest.

Note: these instructions are for 6 cylinder non M engine.
