As others mentioned, you really should break it in by the book. I personally think that the break in period is overplayed but the car records how it is driven so BMW service will know how you broke it in.

I don't know what you are used to driving but the top end of a 3.0 Z3 certainly doesn't suck. The longer I've had this car, the more I realize just how much I really didn't know about driving. It isn't all about mashing the pedal.
