As a point of reference, here is how I found the siren connector on my 2000 2.3:

Removed the fuse box cover so I could see the outside of the fusebox easier.

Located the large black circular brake solenoid (?) behind the brake fluid container.

From the front, picture the 3 o'clock location on this large black circle.

3'0clock is at a spot close to the fuse box. On the outside of the fuse box, very close to the spot where the black circle is closest, there was a cable tie holding a couple of wires. One of these wires has a plug on the end.

I could not undo the cable tie with cold fingers and ended up breaking the plastic tie so I could pull the cable with the plug out.

As plan B, you might try tracing wires that run out of the bottom of the fuse box.
