bad thermostat...the saga continues (archive)

first of all, thanks to those who replied to my message about a possible faulty temperature gauge.

my Z3 is a '96, so I doubt if it's the same problem that you '98 owners described. i did discover that my water pump has a leak. don't know much about cars, so at the expense of sounding really dumb, i'll ask anyway. does a leaky water pump cause the temperature needle to read high?
