I know folks see their speedometers through 'rose-colored glasses at the high end. The speedo error is well-documented, and oft discussed here.

The ECM software will NOT allow the car (on OEM wheels/tires) to go over the published governed limit; the speedo may say different, but it is kidding you. 128 to the cutoff is all you can get unchipped.

And if you figure the 10% (plus 1.5mph) that BMW acknowledges for overage (never under, that is accurate) you could see 140, but seeing, in this case, should NOT be believing.

Incidentally, I had no problem getting my '99 2.3 up to just under 140, but is wasn't GOING that fast. Sigh.
