I just got a 2001 2.5 and I think it goes really well. I think you will really be pleased and will never notice the difference in city traffic. The gear spacing is really good in the 2.5 and 5th is very usable. It certainly won't lay rubber in 4 gears, but it goes well enough.

I got a base model because of finances and am happy with my decision. However, I am also a fan of stripped down cars to save weight (I like Lotuses). I thought the 2.5 base model was loaded by my estimation (A/C, PS, cruise, stereo, etc) and if I had a choice between a loaded 2.5 and a base 3.0 I would have taken the base 3.0. More torque is always welcome.

Either way, I am sure you will be really happy with your car.
