This is a modified 1958 AMC (Nash) Metropolitan. The Nash Metropolitan was made from 1954 to 1956 and after that until 1960 they were made as AMC and were still titled in 1962.This was the first captive import high mileage car. It was made in England and was designed by William Fajole who only recently died. Pinna Farinna also had a hand in it. It has an Austin 1200 cc engine and was upgraded in 1956 to a 1500 cc engine. Trunks and vent windows were added in 1959. It went from zero to 60 in about two hours and had a turning radius of a tractor trailer. It appears to be designed by a cartoonist was so small that the back seat passangers were required to have no knees. The one in the picture is in good shape but not an orignal restoration. I know I have an original 1959 convertible and have owned a 1954 Hudson Metropolitan, a 1956 Metropolitan a 1958 Convertible, and a 1960 Met.I have intended International Metropolitan meets and was the editor for two chapters of the Met club for 5 years. I still see my old Metropolitans at car showsws since they were all restored close to original. I will be taking my Z3 to the International Metropolitan Meet the last weekend in June because my 1959 Met Convertible can't take a trip of that length anymore. My Yellow Z3 gets looks but my two tone yellow and white Metropolitan gets thumbs up and smiles every time I drive it.
