Until mid-1999, if the lights didn't go out in a year's time, the oil was changed per service manual. From mid '99 on, it is either when all green lights are out, or TWO years from last service department oil change.

Oil can take it just fine...some question about the filter.

Having just gone through this with the BMWNA and the Dealer for my 540, 5 & 7 series get an oil change at least once a year regardless of mileage. 'Lesser' series are not included.
