East bay BMW in Pleasanton, CA changed mine under the service agreement after 1-year (00 2.3 July, 99 build date). I had one light left on. Though I did buy the car there and it took a few minutes (presumably while the service advisor was checking with his manager) before they agreed to do it comp. FWIW, my manual does indicate the 1-year change interval...

If you can't get a dealer to do it, I'd suggest changing the oil yourself -- it's really very easy (takes me about a half hour and maybe $30 for the oil and a filter), and i can't measure the peace of mind that it brings. I change mine about twice a year (every four months or 4k miles) with the dealer kicking in the 3rd change per year under the service contract.

Car is well over a year old, only 8K mi, still has "green" bars showing. Dealer sez you don't get oil change until the car sez you do. I can't believe BMW would intend for customers to leave the same oil in potentially for several years. I've never heard of any oil THAT good.

Seems like on this board or another I read something about qualifying for free maintenance oil change at least once a year. Is that right? If so where is it written?

Alternatively, if the dealer won't change it and I change it myself, what should I put in it? (I don't plan on buying BMW oil from the dealer!)
