Engine Cut Out (archive)

i live at an apt complex and i have a gate at the exit...i park just a few spots from the gate so when i go to leave i only get up to about 2000 rpms in 1st gear...when i press the clutch in to stop and wait for the gate the car sounds like it is about to cut off...anyone know why this happens or have this problem and can help...also in the summer when my car is hot and i have the a/c running my car gets louder but if i turn off the a/c or press the clutch it stops...why does the clutch have anything to do w/ it???
