new Z3 3.0, shift knob falls off as i show it off! (archive)

Just bought the Z3, 3.0...love it...was quite embarrased though when the shift knob came off the stalk as I shifted to reverse...was told by the dealer to give it a shot...an uncommon problem! Is this a common problem??? Does it just snap in place for a secure fit???
