I lived in Denver for a while a few years back just after I graduated college and was HAPPY to hear that salt was NOT spread on roads in the Winter. Rather, they spread "sand". Frequently, however, stones and rocks make into the sand spreader.

One day as I was driving my brand new GrandAm home I found myself behind one of the numerous Ford Broncos populating the city (gee imagine THAT!). Suddenly I saw a LARGE DARK OBJECT jump up from the left rear tire. Before I had a chance to react...WHACK! A nickle sized rock smacked me right in the "A" piller leaving a 1/8" dia. gouge in the sheet metal! Both the Bronco and I were on a freshly sanded stretch of road (Wadsworth for those of you familiar with the Mile High city). I have little doubt that if I had been an inch or two further to the left in my lane that rock would have put a nice hole in my windshield.

My solution to the Salt vs. Sand delima was to move SOUTH to where such topics are academic.

Hand in there...better days are a comin'!

Well, I hard wired the Passport 8500, installed the Alpine S260 CD changer (the sound problem was due to my BMW head unit not being plugged all the way in...thanks for the suggestions to Soundgate), installed the wind screen, chrome exhaust tips, magnetic stone guards and so far have not driven the car due to the salt on the road here in Rochester.

But I did actually register it on Friday and ordered custom plates... Z3 XTC.

I can't wait for the warm weather...
