Mine's a 97 2.8 and does the same thing. This is because the revs take a while to drop (something to do with meeting emissions regs) between shifts. So there's quite a bit of torquer on hand, enough to break the rears loose. I noticed, that when I shifted gears, my foot would tend to "feather" the throttle. The ASC problem was ameliorated when I closed the throttle completely between shifts. Took a bit of practice.

If you're going in a straight line, you can turn off the ASC, the tires will only bark, no harm done. but if your on a curve, be prepared from some tail-happiness!
