I'm in California, so the Vette is out for gas mileage reasons.

Well, I'm in Illinois and our gas prices are even higher than yours lately (only Hawaii beats us in the US). As for gas mileage, the Vette will likely have VERY similar mpg to the 3.0 or M. My 928 S4 was running 22 MPG and could have used some tuning. My Z3 2.8 is turning in a solid 23.5 MPG with a pretty heavy foot and top down. Likely a new Vette will put up a 24+ MPG figure when performing at similar levels (and is capable of much higher). Anyway, gas mileage isn't really the strong point for a Z3.
