The 2000 has 6-speeds!!! A real nice feature.

However, to get full performance your pushing 8KRPM... something to consider if you plan on owning the car for more than 30kmiles.

If you plan on selling the car in 2-3 years I'd have a tendency to look at the 2000 seriously... based on Price/Performance... only.

Just remember a Honda will never be a BMW! Once you own one... it's hard to see the rational in buying anything else --- even though the BMW engineers don't think 6 speeds is necessary!

Also... if you buy a Honda, you'll always be testing the car aqainst the BMW --- even if you win... you beat a BMW....
BMW owners don't even consider a race with a HONDA to be worth talking about because a Honda will always be a Honda... even if its called a NSX.

I'm seriously considering a 2-seater convertible for my next car. Probably about 6-9 months out. Boxster S is just a little out of my range. MR-2 Spyder, well... a friend has one, and I'm just not thrilled with it. Benz SLK seems a tad underpowered still, and I'm in California, so the Vette is out for gas mileage reasons.

I've been driving Hondas for 10 years, but am actually leaning towards the Z3/3.0i in Dakar Yellow. Equipped as I like, it's only $3k more than the Honda. However, I have yet to drive either one, and comparing their numbers they are nearly identical in every way. Does the argument come down to simple aesthetics?

So which is the better car, in your opinion... and why? I'm sure you all have thoughts on this, judging from the number of times the word 'S2000' appears on this board.

Not trying to troll, just trying to make an informed decision.
