I try to be very diplomatic in my posts, but I have to take issue with this. Brand loyalty is nothing unique to the car industry (just ask big tobacco), but to claim that a car can't measure up because it's ONLY A HONDA is ludicrous! BMW markets cars to a particular segment of the population that you happen to belong. That does not make BMW God's gift to the car industry.

I don't really like the S2000 all that much, but I respect it for what it is. Don't be a slave to the badge! I like the Z3. I like the Z3 better than the S2000. My Z3 will be my first BMW. I do not like the Z3 BECAUSE it's a BMW. I like it because it fits what I currently want in a car. Will I buy another BMW? Maybe...if I find the one I have is a good value to me over its lifetime, and it's still what I want in a car at that time. Case in point, my SUV has gone 40,000+ miles without anything more than scheduled maintenance. It's proving (so far) to be incredibly reliable, which is what I want in that car. I would consider buying another, but I also realize it's not necessarily the best of its breed, and a couple years from now I might not want another one (especially with the current gas prices). Just trying to say "keep your eyes open" as it were....

The 2000 has 6-speeds!!! A real nice feature.

However, to get full performance your pushing 8KRPM... something to consider if you plan on owning the car for more than 30kmiles.

If you plan on selling the car in 2-3 years I'd have a tendency to look at the 2000 seriously... based on Price/Performance... only.

Just remember a Honda will never be a BMW! Once you own one... it's hard to see the rational in buying anything else --- even though the BMW engineers don't think 6 speeds is necessary!

Also... if you buy a Honda, you'll always be testing the car aqainst the BMW --- even if you win... you beat a BMW....
BMW owners don't even consider a race with a HONDA to be worth talking about because a Honda will always be a Honda... even if its called a NSX.

I'm seriously considering a 2-seater convertible for my next car. Probably about 6-9 months out. Boxster S is just a little out of my range. MR-2 Spyder, well... a friend has one, and I'm just not thrilled with it. Benz SLK seems a tad underpowered still, and I'm in California, so the Vette is out for gas mileage reasons.

I've been driving Hondas for 10 years, but am actually leaning towards the Z3/3.0i in Dakar Yellow. Equipped as I like, it's only $3k more than the Honda. However, I have yet to drive either one, and comparing their numbers they are nearly identical in every way. Does the argument come down to simple aesthetics?

So which is the better car, in your opinion... and why? I'm sure you all have thoughts on this, judging from the number of times the word 'S2000' appears on this board.

Not trying to troll, just trying to make an informed decision.
