...just trying to take it all in. I'm a young guy still (30), and having recently landed an excellent job, want to finally get a 'nice' car after some initial investments, and equity pay down on our home. I don't NEED to impress people with the automobile, I just want a quality daily driver that moves.

I'm migrating from a '90 CRX Si & a '95 Civic EX cpe, so anything in this class is going to impress me.

I love my Hondas, but after 10 years, I find them a little mundane for me. The S2000 is anything but, so this is really a tough choice for me.

Did you find that there was a substantial markup on the yellow? BMWUSA.com spit out a quote of $40.7k on the car, but the dealer who contacted me said it would have to be ordered.

The Honda dealer said $37.7k on the S2000. The price difference is immaterial to me, frankly.

I was faced with a similar situation a year ago. Coming out of college when the tech market was still surging, I landed your standard programming job and was ready to dump my '93 Mazda MX6 due to the fact that at 100k miles everything went south with the car. So I decided to look into my life long dream.. get a topless car. :) So I started to look around. I also have this thing about cars I own. I dont like them to be the same as everyone else. I personally feel different than most people so why cant my car? So I ran into the Z3, the S2000, and the MR2 Spyder. Having a toyota dealership near me, i went to look into the MR2 because the old one was a neat car. Well, I was pretty dissapointed. The car looked like a frog and had no power. Not to mention the area around the shifter looked like no interior work was done on it at all. Like most old trucks. So I ditched that idea. Living in Fairfax, VA... which is near DC, its nice to know if you want to see a car, you can easily find it, so I found a honda dealership with a S2K, which was brand spanking new at the time, sitting in the showroom.

First confession.. I didnt notice it at first, I thought it was a new model of a honda civic at first glance. The car did impress me more on a closer look, because it was a little more stylish than my first glance indicated. Honda seemed like a good idea because honda makes reliable cars and this car would be my daily driver. I talked to the dealer some, and he was full of himself, so that didnt help. I decided to do more research, but first.. stop at a BMW dealership. Is there a rule that all BMW dealerships must have other fancy cars attatched to them? I stopped at Heishman's BMW in Arlington, which happens to also be a Porche and Audi dealership as well. So I ended up getting shown the TT right off. Well then.. sorry TT fans, I dont see it.. buy a bug. As I walk over to see the bimmers a brand new black boxter S was being delivered to its 40 year old male owner with his 20 year old blonde wife. Gave me a damn good laugh. Looked beautiful though. I finally made my way to see the Z3. They had a beautiful '98 atlanta blue. I was like.. James Bond car!! Unfortunately for me, it had every option, not to mention the previous driver had put in a stereo that made me drool. The dealer let me drive it, and I loved it right away. I called back the next day to say I wanted it and it was sold. The car sold me on the test drive, but I had heard the stereos werent so great on the Z and this one was excellent. I missed my chance, but I told them to call me if they got another, and about 2 weeks later, my car arrived.
I still have my 1998 Z3 2.8. I actually thought about a M roadster, but the dealer said "The car only costs $4k more, but call your insurance company first and talk to me then." So I did... ok, so doubling the price from my current car didnt interest me. Stuck with the 2.8. Its a great car. I have the constant desire to make it better I'll admit, but really, there is no need to.
