Anyone know if I can disable the passenger airbag? My daughter would reeeeely like a ride!

Because it is a two seater, you can get an authorization from NHTSA to install the passenger disable switch. This must be performed by an authorized (and preferably experienced) mechanic. I asked my dealer about it (97 2.8 Atlanta/Tan/Tan) and they had NEVER done one. If you dig around the NHTSA website, you can see how many shutoffs have been installed per year/per manufacturer. Since 1997, there have only been 400 switches installed in BMWs in the entire United States.

Estimated cost is ~$600 USD and include switch/wiring harness, new seatbelt and maybe some other stuff...

See the link for more info.
