Seems like blowing a tire (or other mechanical failure) is just about the only thing that would have caused him to lose control if he was just accelerating in a straight line.

I own a M-Coupe, same engine, and just don't see how he could have done that without some sort of mechanical failure or something. While our cars have a great deal of power, at speeds of 70+ the torque and HP aren't great enough to really unsettle the rear in a straight away...unless there was a large bump/dip in the road that threw the car out of whack.

Ideas?

Same thing happened to me back in January. I totaled my 2000 M Roadster in the middle of a turn at about 60 MPH (while being run over by a Trans-Am in the other lane). As I downshifted from 5th to 4th the rear wheels broke loose (with the DSC on) and threw the car into a full 360. If the DSC had been off, I might have been able to power through the turn.

Very baffling to me (I had a couple dozen sports cars and never had one handle like this). Another possibility for my accident may be an improper re-calibration of the Dinan chip I had just installed in the car.

Months later I still havent figured out how the car could break loose that fast at that speed in fourth gear.
