The reason for the battery charger is this: during the installation you have the ignition turned on. This causes the computer, fuel pump, the computer fan and who knows what else, to draw power. I watched the battery voltage for a few minutes and during this time it dropped evey passing minute. Now it never reached less than 12.5V, but it is possible that if the battery is not fully charged, that it could drop below this threshold. I think that if your battery is new and you had driven for 30 minutes before, this would have topped up the charge, you could get away by not using a charger.
Using another battery is not quite the same as using a charger, because the battery charger has a regulater that tries to maintain about 13.8V or so. The second battery will supply more current to run the accesories, but the voltage is not guaranteed.
I am not sure that after spending $400 for the shark injector, you don't want to spend about $35 for a battery charger.
