It IS "crap". My 2000 "///M coupe" (purchased 5/12/99) has just under 27,000 miles now. Used non-synthetic for the first 7000 miles or so, then switced to BMW's synthetic. Car uses (maybe?) a 1/2 quart between changes, which I do every 3500 to 4000 miles. I suspect a bad valve guide or a ring is NOT doing its job on your "///M"! You have a legitimate complaint for a warranty fix using that much oil. Follow up or contact BMW of North America if the locals won't help you. FYI
