It's not a spin on type. It is located in the front to the right of the fan. Approx. 4 inches in dia. When removing the filter from inside the O-rings need to be replaced. They come with the filter (2 small and 1 large ). Also a copper washer comes with the filter, this is for the drain plug. Use a german filter such as BMW brand.
If your dealer is a problem then go to Autozone, they have the same filter ( numbers match).
Make sure you fill the engine to the correct level, it holds an odd amount ( not 5 or 6 qts.)
