JonM,

  • As an adjunct to what Vidterry mentioned, maybe he's got a potential buyer but they simply can't agree on price. eBay seems like a fair & reasonable way to ascertain current market value, IMO. Asssuming he does infact intend to sell it.

  • Hypothecation. Assuming he doesn't have any intention to sell it at all; then, I'd say eBay's a clever way of monetizing its value...Pursuant to any mezzanine financing negotiations that he may have with his VC/IB/Merchant Banker/? (his bsns apparently needs a two month bridge loan).

  • Emissions-related. It's my understanding that the newer of car or engine applies to EPA regs. Since, in this case, the engine is an '97. I don't know what Florida's laws are; but, if it were in California, it would be due for a smog test...Maybe he's got one or more little (but very expensive to correct) snags with the CPU, OBD II, Cat back, mods done to bump output up to "260hp+", or whatever.

  • Importation-related. He's now in Canada. Maybe he can't justify the expense of importing it. I have no clue what Canada's laws are on this.

Heck! I'd like to know why it was taken to Texas for an oil change?!
