Switch on a 318is (archive)

I just bought an automatic 93 318is. It has a switch by the gear shifter that has an A and an M on it. What is it for. And do u know where i can get an owners manual for it from, or a website with one on it. It has 97,000 miles, what should i replace or have checked out?
