In the below pic, i'm assuming that you do not have to remove the dome light, but just disengage the 4 tabs. Do I understand you right?

Also in the following pic, do you remember if the wire harness and white molex connector to the farthest left is actually found above the dome light? I'm pretty sure I didn't see this connector, but I'll disassemble this again tomorrow to double check.

The pic is actually from Rachel's fixit url, and apparantly, the BMW techie spliced the black wire (the one described in the above paragraph). Could this be the black ground switch you are referring to as the the "ground switch in the door?"
