I don't know the exact output for the s/c-ed 1.9, but I would say if you want to drag race people and don't wanna trade in your Z3, a s/c might be the way to go for you.

But keep in mind, people who buy Mustangs and Corvettes get them for their bang for the buck appeal, go fast cheap, so to speak. Often, refinement, fit and finish, and quality are not on the top of their list of criteria when considering a new car. Not all, mind you, I'm generalizing (I'm allowed to, I've had 2 Mustangs, 2 Camaros, etc).

I drove a C5 recently, and still went with the Roadster. This is just my opinion, so no flames please, while I was very impressed with the powertrain of the Vette, I was not so impressed with the quality and fit and finish. Visibility was bad, it rode like a rock, and I just felt it was way too much plastic for a $46K car. I actually preferred the new Mustang Cobra to the Vette, the Vette is faster, but the Cobra had a more quality feel to it. In the end I got the Roadster, again, not as balls-out fast as the other 2 choices, but by no means a dog, and I felt it blended performance, comfort, and quality better than the Vette and Cobra.

The newer V6 Stangs aren't as slow as they used to be, I've seen guys getting them mid-14's in the 1/4 mile, not far off from the V8 powered GT's of 94-98.

I got my 99 GT to 13.9 at the track my first time, bone stock, no mods, and stock tires.
