About 5 years ago, we leased a 5 series thru BMW. Two years into the lease, we offered to buy the car. The penalty to buy the car early was the monthly payment times the number of months remaining on the lease, and the numbers were not negotiable. We decided to ride out the lease and buy at the end.

Has anyone bought their car outright before the end of their lease? Or did you let the lease run out and then purchase it?

I'm trying to get a feel for what my options are.
