I paid $4200.00 for a 1957 100/6 two seater back in 1978 (and I still have it).
We bought the 1999 M Rdstr for <$42000.00 (inc. taxes, etc.) last November.
Right at 10:1 for that go'round.
The 2001 M RDstr will cost us just past 50grand by the time we get it out the door (hdtp & CD).
I'll "guess" that a new 2001 M3 engine would cost between 15 & 20 grand.
Anybody know for sure?
