In Reply to: Will be buying a '98-'99 Z3 soon for the wife ... posted by Ron on July 08, 2001 at 17:04:55:

Any tips on what to look for or what to watch out for? We currently have a E28 and a E30 so I don't have much knowledge on the Z3 yet. She is planning to get a manual shift model. This will be replacing her E30 5spd and our daughter is anxiously waiting. Any help would be much appreciated.

TIA,
Ron

program is not worth it, but if you buy from a BMW dealer you do have some recourse. Also when you find a car your interested in run a CARFAX, there not a 100% but they do have important info. When I bought my 98 1.9L last year I asked the dealer to run a carfax, they did without hesitation and printed a copy. I went home and ran one myself and got same info. Also look at the general condition of the car, does it look good, and taken care of. eyeball fenders and panels see if there are ripples or waves. Does it drive good, no pulling, vibration, etc, check tires for wear, brakes work well, etc, if tires are brand new, there might have been a problem. Then if you have a local mechanic have them take a look at it. If the dealer hesitates on that, walk away.
