Any tips on what to look for or what to watch out for?
Check out the entire CPO-ed inventory within a 500 mile radius of your home from the bmwusa.com site. Print up the cars that you find interesting, and bring the printouts to the dealer when you check out the cars. I found that the dealer's window sticker was usually a few THOUSAND dollars more than my printout. One dealer balked at working with the posted Internet price to make a deal, but the others had no such problems. Additionally, one dealer swapped the wheels around between cars - my prinout got me the wheels I wanted back on "my car" at negotiating time.
Example: the dealer in Buena park, CA: sticker: $34,5000, Internet listing: $28,900. 1999 2.8 automatic.
I found the entire CPO experience worthwhile....

When I went to my local dealer and found the car I wanted, I asked him to quote me a price, based on my trade. They looked over my 86 911 and said they would get back to me the next day, which happened to be July 31, 2000. I went home and did some homework on Edmunds.com and Kellys Blue Book and got a target figure. The next day when I went back, they quoted me a price, that was beow my target, so I pulled out my checkbook and gave them a deposit. I guess that buying a car pays off, at least in my case it did.
