I did it on my 3,0 (coupé) EU-version. (i live in Germany). But i think the US vesion is the same airbox.

The airbox itself looks like that of the 2.8 (newer version) so it is the same modification as Nathan Fong describes on his WebSite. I think it is much more work than with an 1.9 airbox, just as side notice (it took me almost a full saturday to do it with the needed precision (don't wanna do a bad job;-)

A difference in performance, i can not feel one, sound changed a bit, you can now here a "whistling" noise from the engine, from inside the car it does not changed much, but from outside friends told me it changed, so that you directly can notice it, if you know how it sounds before. I left the cap beside the foglight on/in its place.

I also removed it to check if there is a differnce (as nathan ment there could be a "semi ram air effect". sound is the same, but i think the car reacts a bit better, and slightly pulls better a higher RPMS (5000 and above) with removed cap, so i am leaving it off. But it's also a question of visuals. MAybe you hate the look of the removed cap...

I think it is a modification you can do to the 3,0. If it works with the 2.8 (newer airbox version) it will for sure work with the 3,0 because both have identical airboxes, and i think the 3,0 profits of it even more, because i think it needs more air. I havn't made any pictures, but the way is the same as nathan did it, i just used an other fixation method (plastic ring clued to rest of airbox, and the metal tube is connected to the plastic ring with an hose clamp.) I also made a cirle cut, i thought about cutting it in as an elispse (so that the plastic ring sits i an 45°c angle or so (to maybe airfow is a bit more straight, but that was a bit to difficult, becasue of the uneven airbox. I also think that this wouldn't have made any differnce, becasue of the lights hosing which sits directly in front of the outlet before the entry to the main airbox, maybe if i am getting bored on a saturday, i will open the hole thing again and try this way (i think that will never happen;-)

regards,

Mario (Germany)
