After having seen how these mpg meters work, I can tell you that you would not be pegged at the low end. When you are coasting, you are using almost no gas. The meter would then read up near 50. When you are accelerating hard, you are really burning it up. The meter would then peg to the right. When you are cruising, you are using a medium amount of gas. The meter would then be toward the right, but not pegged.The important thing to remember is that the meter reads instantaneous mpg, not average mpg. So you won't get a constant 19-20 mpg reading. Rather, the meter will fluctuate quite significantly depending on what you are doing to the accelerator.
