I noticed, that unlike me, my father does not need to "assist" his power top. He has a '99 2.3; I a 2001 3.0i. How come his is a real power top while mine should be called a semi-power top?

You have to assist your power top? How so?

When you take it down you have to start it going by lifting it about 4 inches; when bringing it up you have to grab the handle and pullit up to begin before it gets going on its own.
