First off, the top will not go down unless the first link in the top cover is broken, i.e, cracked, pointing up, the first joint skyward. You know, after you unlatch the top, just tilt it up. If you don't, it won't work, because the motor knows it will jam.

Next, unless you step on the brake with the ignition lights on (with the proper turn of the key), the motor will not take her down.

Same holds true when putting the top up. The brake must be depressed with the ignition key inserted and turned to power-up mode (the engine needn't be running, though.)

Does that help? My top was full power. Perhaps I just don't understand what you are saying.
