Oil shelf life? (archive)

Whenever I change the oil on my 1.9 I buy 6 quarts of oil and use only about 1/4 of the last quart. Is it OK to use the remaining 3/4 the next time I change my oil, or should I keep buying 6 quarts and let the extra go unused? Thanks
