Well I headed up to my favorite set of fun roads--Mt. Palomar area of North San Diego County. I first drove these roads with a group of BMWs and Porsches and the roads are awesome. Well, this time I went solo, but hooked up with a group of about 20 Corvettes. I turned my walkabout on scan mode and picked them up on Channel 10 and just tagged along. Their general pace seemed slower than last time I drove through with a group, but then again I was at the rear and really couldn't see how far ahead the front of the pack was. However, the road opened up on a long up hill straight and everyone floored it as they turned left onto this road (hwy 76). They were pulling slightly on me, but then I realized I still had my AC and ASC on. I flipped them both off. The next few times we dropped the hammer, I was right there with them. The guys at the back were taking the corners a little slow for me, so in the next few straights I passed up a few of them and ended up behind a Z06!!! cool. In the parking lot I saw that this was not the new Z06. This bad boy's exhaust sounded so good when he nailed it. But from about 50 in the turns all the way up to about 115 on the straights, I was right with him. Then on the radio, the Corvette drivers started asking me, what kind of engine my car has. I told them it was an M roadster with the M3 engine. They were very surprised I could hang with them. They asked if I had swapped out the engine or something and I said nope, just a stock M Roadster. They pulled off at the Julian Pie Company and I flipped a u turn and headed back again towards home as it was getting late. Lots of fun and there are about 20 corvette drivers out there with some newfound respect for the M roadster. These guys said they were part of West Coast Corvettes and I was wondering if anyone knew what message board these guys might be on.
