He had a 1994 325is that had trouble. Last year, he blew out a tire from some junk on the road, and while changing the tire, the lug wrench snapped. He was stranded at 1 or 2 in the morning. He called me first, and I suggested that he try BMW Roadside assistance.
They did come, and I don't remember him being charged for the incident.
In all honesty, BMW Roadside assistance isn't wonderful in some areas. I had trouble with the engine in my Z3, and although the car ran, I didn't want to drive it. I called for assistance, and no one showed up for almost 3 hours. That wouldn't be so bad, but this was near Philadelphia!
Do yourself a favor, and join AAA. their premiere service is something kile $70 a year, and in populated areas, they practically guarantee a 1 hour response, not to mention numerous travel discounts at hotels/motels around the country.
If you need assistance, call BMW Roadside first, and then call AAA to get a tow truck to take you to the nearest dealer. Once I had to have someone jumpstart my car, and AAA showed up in about 45 minutes.
