Tonight, I sat in the car and listened to a couple of CDs that I have heard dozens, if not hundreds of times. As I sat there I said to myself: ÒDamnÉ something is not right here.Ó So I finally put in the ÒScorpions, Pure InstinctÓ a CD I have heard a hundred times. I know it well; itÕs one of my favorites. ThatÕs right, the Scorpions, and tomorrow is my 46th birthday. IÕve been a ÒrockerÓ all my life! AnywayÉ as much as I tried and tried to adjust the bass, treble, balance, etc., it sounded like shit. Sorry girls, itÕs the only appropriate word. Not poor, not bad, or any word otherwise, overall it sounded like shit.
So we now have a stereo with more power, more bass, more treble. But the whole works blends together into a MUDDLED terrible mess. That is the key word, muddled. And remember folks; this is the car that I own with 160 miles on it. You can trust me for honest reports.
So how do you make it right? This is what I did to my 98/2.8 with outstanding results. When I was done with this upgrade, the vocals, guitars, etc. were so crisp and clear; you thought the band was live in your cabin. You could Òcrank it upÓ in the cabin until it hurt, and it was without a doubt, crystal clear. Am I an audiophile? Not in the least, but I sure can tell good sound from bad. Again, I preface my remarks by saying this is almost a 50k car, and just like the speedometer, everything should be right for this kind of money.
Thanks to ÒDC of Cape CodÓ (Doug Campbell) he sent me a Rockford Fosgate ÒPunchÓ 2 channel amp to install in the trunk. I then replaced the kickpanel and door speakers with Boston Acoutics Pro 6.5 speakers. I ran all the rest of the speakers off the stock factory amp. ThatÕs it, simple, easy to do. The sound againÉ outstanding. Hope this helps someone to get the same performance out of the stereo as of our great Euro Motor! (:
