plasticizer that has vaporized and condensed on the inside of the rear window. Plasticizer a chemical in the other plastic components of your car that keeps the plastic from becoming brittle and cracking. Ever notice how a dash will crack over time ? That's because the plasticizer vaporizes out over time. When it vaporizes, it condenses on any cool surface, like the inside of your window (front and rear). You can clean the front with windex, but the back window, being plastic, needs a plastic cleaner, like Meguiars #18, or other quality plastic cleaners. Otherwise, you'll wind up removing the plasticizer from your rear window and it will crack just like a dash.
Don't feel bad, all cars have this problem.
Tom
