...just kidding, but really Shawn, I love my car to death now! Your mod was actually easier than I had imagined and to do it over would be just a bit over one hour!
removing the stock airbox
it's gone!
stock airbox w/ sound-deadening treatment, external snorkel and internal funnel, and a few dead bugs!
new inlet installed and glued in place (twice as large as stock)
reinstalled w/ silver 4" hose to fog light area for CAI
The whole modification took me under three hours, and right after reinstalling, I had to jump in for a quick spin around the block, still sweaty from the 90° heat! After a shower & clean clothes however, further testing proved that 1st and 2nd gear were bears. Shawn your a incredible! The extra boost seems to be in the 3500 to 4500 rpm range but more noticeable in the lower gears. For the rest of the day, I found myself looking for opportunities to show off my new-found hp, and did so on a few occasions including on very custom Harley 1200cc. He was out for a Sunday drive, feet spread on the cruising pegs so I down-shifted and floored it. I went from 55 to 80 in matter of seconds. It was fabulous. I can only imagine what the 1.9 feels like w/ the D/A super charger install. For now I'm in love again, and I owe it all to Shawn Fogg. That's drink #2 I owe you now. You'll recall that #1 was for the very kewl German hand-blown glass Z3 Christmas ornament that you sent. Shawn... it is folks like you that make me proud to be a Z3 enthusiast.
