I wasn't happy with the painted garage floor in our old house--it was too easily damaged by tyres. I did a bit of research before painting the floor in our new garage. Because concrete becomes friable on contact with air, you need to either stabilise the top layer with an epoxy glue, then paint directly onto the glue before it dries, or remove the top layer with acid, then paint before it becomes friable again.I used hydrochroric acid-based etching fluid. It was very easy (but a little dangerous) to use and I carefully washed it off with a hose.
I went for standard concrete floor paint, but wanted a change from the normal red/grey type colors, so went for 'safety yellow'. This was a *little bright* so for the second coat I mixed some red with it, so now I have an orange floor!
